Felicity Goodey CBE, businesswoman and former BBC journalist and presenter with a passion for business in the North West and Wythenshawe has agreed to become the patron of ‘Handbags & Briefcases’ - the fledgling Wythenshawe Business Women’s network and support group.
The group formed as a spin-off from women who had attended the successful ‘Women into Business’ course run by Willow Park Housing Trust’s Enterprise Support Project. With help from the Enterprise Support Project they have set up a constituted group with the aim ‘”to provide a supportive pressure-free environment for women to network, both professionally to promote their businesses, and socially to meet like-minded women for mutual support and the sharing of experiences”. The group now has 30 members and has just received a Lottery ‘Awards for All’ grant to help them develop and grow.
Felicity Goodey said; “Handbags & Briefcases offers not only practical advice and support but a tremendous network of like-minded ladies who keep each other going, especially when times get tough. Women are renowned for being experts at 'multi-tasking' but we are human!! It’s great to have a few friends who share your passion, can relate to your challenges and celebrate your successes even when, in the early days, they may seem rather small to the rest of the corporate world.”
Willow Park Housing Trust’s Enterprise Support Project is now running its 6th successful ‘Women into Business’ course starting on 12th February at Benchill Community Centre.
Eddy Newman, Chair of Willow Park said; “The Enterprise Support Project has been invaluable to the community since it began in 2005. It has helped establish 117 new businesses, of which over 40% have been set up by women. Handbags & Briefcases will continue to encourage and support these women, and others like them, to achieve success in their chosen field.”
